The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a threat to Fourth Amendment rights that protect Americans from unreasonable searches and seizures, according to former First Lady Melania Trump.
On Sept. 14, she took to the X platform to post a video reminding users of the FBI’s raid on their Mar-a-Lago home in Florida in August 2022. Agents visited the property under the auspices of the Biden-Harris administration, ostensibly in search of classified documents. According to Newsweek, FBI officials said they confiscated nearly 11,000 documents, which included more than 100 papers marked as classified and no less than 18 marked “top secret.”
“I never imagined my privacy would be invaded by the government here, in America. The FBI invaded my home in Florida and searched through my personal belongings,” Trump said in the video. “This is not just my story. It serves as a warning to all Americans, a reminder that our freedom and rights must be respected.”
The video began with a view of the U.S. Constitution, followed by the text of the Fourth Amendment: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated.” It inserted images of the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida’s Palm Beach and the Founding Fathers, according to Newsmax.
Former President Donald Trump, Melania’s wife, told Newsmax back in September 2022 that she felt “very violated” when FBI agents were in her bedroom.
“They got into a closet, they go through her dresses, and who knows what else? And it wasn’t left the way they found it,” he said at the time. “I think it’s a disgrace that a thing like this could happen.”
The controversy about the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago began shortly after Donald left the White House in January 2021. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) reported receiving some of his presidential records, mentioning that some had been torn up and taped back together.
In February of the following year, NARA confirmed the recovery of 15 boxes of presidential records from Mar-a-Lago, some of which included classified national security information. This led to an investigation carried out by the House Oversight Committee.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) got involved in the investigation when the situation intensified, with the FBI under it interviewing many of Donald’s former aides in April 2022. By June, DOJ investigators held a meeting with the former president’s lawyers and presented a grand jury subpoena for the remaining documents still at Mar-a-Lago.
The former president was slapped with 40 federal charges by DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith over his alleged handling of the sensitive materials confiscated during the raid. He was also accused of obstructing attempts by federal authorities to recover them. Donald pleaded not guilty and said the raid was nothing more than a political witch hunt against him.
District Judge Aileen Cannon threw out all the charges in July, ruling that Smith was wrongfully financed and appointed to supervise the case. The prosecutor has since appealed Cannon’s ruling
In a separate post on X, Melania also called for the truth about the assassination attempt on her husband to be uncovered. Donald was shot on July 13 during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania – but only ended up with a grazed right ear.
“The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience. Now, the silence around it feels heavy,” she wrote.
“I can’t help but wonder: Why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech? There’s definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth.”
